Macolin Convention: ULIS Observer Status Renewed

In recognition of our work and commitment to the Macolin Convention, ULIS had its Observer status renewed during the 11th Meeting of the Follow-up Committee of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (T-MC), held at the Palais de l’Europe, the Council of Europe’s headquarters in Strasbourg, France.

ULIS and its state lottery members unconditionally support the principles of the Macolin Convention and its implementation worldwide. Following this renewal of status, ULIS remains the only sports betting integrity entity to sit as Observer to the Committee.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Japan, Canada, and Australia. A representative from the Brazilian Ministry of Sport also joined online, reinforcing Brazil’s request to accede to the Convention. This demonstrates the growing number of states outside Europe interested in adhering to the Macolin Convention.

It was the last meeting chaired by George Mavrotas, who completed the maximum allowed two two-year terms. During his presidency, the number of countries that ratified the Macolin Convention more than doubled. Following elections, Kornelija Tiesnesyte from Lithuania was elected the new Chair of the Follow-up Committee, and Patrick Eichenberger from Switzerland the new Vice-Chair.

ULIS looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Committee, supporting the Convention and providing our expertise on sports betting and integrity matters.
