Unil CAS in Regulation of Global Sports

The United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS) is committed to fostering education on sports betting related issues as one of its top priorities. In line with this objective, ULIS recently collaborated for the third consecutive year with the University of Lausanne in the framework of the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Regulation of Global Sports.

As part of this collaboration, Ms. Cristina Swan, ULIS's Project Manager, delivered a captivating series of three presentations on sports betting issues and its potential legal and regulatory challenges on a global scale. The presentations addressed key topics such as sports betting regulation and functioning, the monitoring of suspicious betting activities, and the essential role of integrity reports in investigations and prosecutions. Furthermore, a session was specially dedicated to shedding light on the rapidly evolving domain of e-sports and e-sports betting, emphasizing the distinctive integrity and monitoring aspects compared to traditional sports.

“The students’ high level of engagement throughout all the sessions was remarkable. Their insightful questions and eagerness to delve deeper into the complexities of sports betting regulation left a lasting impression on me. I trust that the tools we provided will enable them to confidently tackle sports betting related subjects in any circumstances of their future professional endeavors,” expressed Ms. Swan.

For ULIS this was a excellent opportunity to raise awareness and promote dialogue with the academic world regarding the importance of having international regulatory mechanisms for safeguarding the integrity of sports in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. Collaborations like these are instrumental in building capacity and knowledge of professionals, so that they can better understand the complex issues involved in international collaboration on sports integrity matters.
